The Driver CPC is short for “Driver Certificate of Professional Competence” It has been introduced to the UK through EU Directive 2009/59. It is a new qualification that all lorry, coach and bus drivers will need if they wish to drive professionally for a living. The course content & examination requirements come under the authority of the D.S.A. (Driving Standards Agency)
Driver CPC has three main objectives:
- Improve road safety.
- Increase the amount of knowledge required before a person may gain a vocational license.
- Undergo periodic training to confirm and expand on existing knowledge and skills of each driver…
The Driver CPC is divided into two types of training:
- Initial
- Periodic
Initial Driver CPC:
- Is a requirement for all new PSV/LGV vocational license entrants (cat C1, C and C+E) after 10th September 2009
Periodic Driver CPC:
- Will be required for all drivers who already have PSV/LGV vocational license entitlement (cat C1, C and C+E) before 10th September 2009
